The set was designed to subtly resemble a ship. The play begins with Prospero's spirit, Ariel, causing a ship to capsize, so this is quite befitting. The main circular platform emphasizes the setting of an Island, and the blue color shows the water surrounding it. The six entry ways (three on each side) provide the opportunity to play with difference in levels and dimension. Throughout the show, the actors made use of the set in many different ways. For example, the poles and ropes were used during the first scene, when the ship was capsizing. Charlie Roppolo (Ariel) used the poles many times to weave himself around the stage and other cast members as he cast his spells. Kennedy Wilcher (Caliban) used the hole in the center of the platform during her first entrance, which caused an eerie effect.
